Rolf Sprink was born in 1950. He grew up in Görlitz, Dresden, Bautzen, Berlin. He studied ethnology and sociology at the University of Leipzig. He was a lecturer at Brockhaus, then Tourist-Verlag. From 1996 to 2015 he was Director of the Leipzig Centre for Adult Education. He has published numerous volumes on adult education and the work of adult education centres. He performs voluntary work, including being a board member of the Peaceful Revolution Foundation.
